Cadiz, Spain

My first time to Spain! Our ship was docked right near the center of town, so it was only a 5 minute walk to get there. I looked up places to see before we arrived and made my list: The old Cathedral, Torre Tavira (the highest watch tower), and Gran Teatro Falla (an old theater). Well, I did get to one on my list – the Cathedral. Kris was my sightseeing buddy for the afternoon, so we set off together. It was a little chilly, with sprinkles of rain every now and then (until the later afternoon when the sun came out). The Cathedral was very grand – the architecture was beautiful. We opted not to pay the 5 Euros to go explore the church, but instead spend that on climbing the church tower (which is supposedly the highest point in Cadiz). It was indeed interesting and the views were great! 360 degrees! After that we had lunch/snack at a little cafe across from the church. I'm glad my Spanish is decent – because our waiter didn't speak English (or didn't want to). Kris and I split up after lunch because I needed to go back to the ship and drop off my netbook (I had planned on doing some interneting (my word), but didn't. I came back out and walked all around this beautiful city. I did find a Carrrefour, which is a department store/grocery store and stocked up on some vegan treats and snacks. Did you know that they even had soy chocolate pudding???!!! I was so excited! It's nice that the Europeans don't put as much crap in their packaged food as the Americans do – you won't find high fructose corn syrup over here! I did a little but more wandering but time really does fly when you are having fun – and soon enough, it was time for me to head back to the ship. A really wonderful day :)
