I'm Home! Todaima!
I have been home for almost a week now and it has taken that long to acclimate. I have had HORRIBLE jetlag (13 hour time difference), and I am just now starting to come out of it! I apologize for not calling anyone, this is the reason why (that and having to unpack and repack). I only have a few more days left in NY and then off to CA, where I get to deal with another time change....LOL.
Being home in NY has been pretty good! I haven't ventured out much (see jetlag sentence above), but when I have, it has been kind of a culture shock. I forgot how rude and inconsiderate people are here - and so brash! So much disrespect - I have gone from one extreme to the other. This is mostly in the service industry, mind you, people on the street are more pleasant. That said, it is so nice to be able to go into a store and have the ability to read all the labels (which as a vegan, I have to) and signs and understand the conversation around me. Oh - and Diet Vanilla Coke! And Granny Smith apples! lol
Ah, the return to my "real life"....or regular life.....or life-as-I-have-known-it.... Going to Japan and living the culture has been a wonderful experience and it has opened my eyes to a lot of things (values and such). I am grateful for the enrichment and experiences this trip has given me - now if I could only stretch the days out to allow more time to sleep....
