Alghero, Sardegna Italy

I slept in today (because I could). Paul left early, so I had the room to myself. I worked on my German, copied some files over to my hard drive, and tidied up my place – a very peaceful morn. We are tendering in today, and I finally left the ship around 1ish. I met my friend, Veselina (from the casino), and we walked around the city of Alghero together. There is a long fortress wall that still encloses most of the city & marina, and many towers and more fortress walls around town. And the cobblestone streets! I just love those. The ocean was right there and the smell of the sea....so wonderful. I know – I work on a ship in the middle of the sea, but this is different. The smell of the salty fishy water on the beach – that reminds me of home. I so love the ocean. We found a great place for gelato & sorbet, and I had the best tasting mint sorbet! I mixed it with mango – not the best combination - but since chocolate wasn't an option, I chose a yummy fruit. We also came upon a thrift store area. The antiques weren't inside a store, but rather set up on a table in the street, ala flea market style. Plenty of things I would have liked to have bought, but I wouldn't be able to get them home. There was a square that had several flower shops, and it smelled so good! I would have loved to have taken some back to the ship. Near the flowers was another ruins area where there were several feral kitties – one that was so friendly, she came up to me and let me scratch her. It made me miss my furballs back home. After walking for a while, Veselina and I split up for lunch (plus I wanted to get online). I ended up eating at a little cafe across from where the tenders were docking. I had Caprese bagette (tomato, cheese, & oil sandwich) without the cheese. It was ok. I was hungry. And after, I splurged again on another sorbet – this time kiwi. I have got to stop!!
