Opening Night!
We have been rehearsing our Motown show all week, and tonight is the big night! Our dress rehearsal went pretty well, though we did cut one song and do a last minute singer change on another. The passengers have been looking forward to seeing us all perform. 2 nights ago we had a 'Meet & Greet' session in the theater so that the passengers could meet us and the production crew and we sang a couple songs to give them a taste of things to come (I got to sing the lead on one song, and Paul the other – yeah for us old timers!! Paul and I are the oldest ones in our cast). We must have made an impression because the next night we were assigned to have dinner with the guests to mingle and spread the word about our show (which I had a minor freak-out about because I hadn't had any time to look at the menu and talk to the chef about vegan options). Dinner went fine, I found something to eat besides a salad, and our dinner couple was great. Paul & I dined with a couple from Northern CA that own a vineyard. They were very sweet and pretty funny. I took my seasick pills early so I was able to get through dinner just fine. Good thing too because the ship started rockin' and rollin' soon after! Uh! It's times like this I wish I were on a bigger ship - or calmer seas.
I know I'm cramming in a lot and jumping around - I'm just trying to catch up from not being online and being seasick. Ok. So – our show tonight went AWESOMELY! Even with the ship really rocking back and forth. I think I got a workout from trying to hold my place....I was sweaty afterwards.....lol. We had a full house and even received a standing ovation (and, as one of the passengers said, “even the people with walkers were standing without them”). The passengers onboard can be a picky bunch (most of them have cruised this line and others many many times), but they enjoyed us and told us so. Phew! So glad. We mingled a little after the show then headed back to change and then go home. Now to study my Italian for the Opera show that is coming next. Ciao!
