South African cruise trip!

On my way to visit my love on the Silver Wind, and cruise South Africa! I have 2 long flights: the first is a 15 hour to Dubai, an 8 hour layover, then 9 hours to Cape Town, South Africa.

The flight to Dubai was a L O N G 15 hours - with several babies crying pretty much NON-STOP, and the gentleman behind me stinking of BO. I was grateful when the air clicked on so I didn't smell him unless he moved a lot :p This was my first time flying Emirates Air. The coach seats were roomy, and I got all my vegan meals :)

A little pack of essential goodies (toothbrush & toothpaste, eye mask, and a towel thing

We arrived in Dubai at 7:50pm their time - I think it was early am my time. I was exhausted. After getting off the plane we headed to immigration. Here are a couple of pics of the airport inside:

All the men working the immigration area were in the traditional Arib dress (the white gown and hat). Interesting to see in real life - lol. It was a very very beautiful airport. I didn't get to explore it as I wanted to get to my hotel (the airline gave me a complimentary room) as soon as possible so I could get a couple of hours of real rest - and a shower - before contining with part 2 of my journey. The hotel was fine - basic hotel. Because of all the time it took to go through immigration, then wait, then get to the hotel, wait again, I was left with only enough time for a 2 hour nap, and a nice shower. My excitement at seeing Helli trumped my exhaustion (plus, I figured I could sleep on the next flight......ha)!

I saw they had a Starbucks in the airport and I thought I would have a Chai Tea....but they don't carry it! :( They did, however, have square donuts...

The next flight was fine. the guys at the Dubai hotel were nice enough to change my airline seat to an exit row, but there was no one in front of me - which meant I had to store all my stuff in the overhead compartment. I like having my essentials within easy access during the flight - ah well. I forgot to mention that the Emirates flights have cameras on the plane and you can watch take offs and landings (which i find cool) - and actually see what's around during the flight. The downside was that there were a bunch of young college age kids from Germany (?) I think, and they didn't understand that when the lights are out and dimmed and everyone on the plane is sleeping, you should be quiet - or at least talk quietly if you are going to talk at all. A few were sitting near me talking and laughing loud - so very inconsiderate and annoying. The good thing is that it was "only" a 9 hour flight and I got all my vegan meals!
