Cape Town, South Africa
Today we are back in Cape Town, the 2nd most populous city in South Africa, and the capitol. I am very excited to be able to go exploring (at least around the port since I don't have a car). There are a lot of shops around the seaport and - you guessed it - a mall (a HUGE one). Since I am staying on board, I need to pick up some more toiletries and a few other items (like malaria pills and white tennis shoes so that I can escort tours). The day was beautifully sunny and hot - just how I like my weather :)
I walked out of the port with my friend, Laura (shore excursion), and she directed me to the portside shops and mall
After a 5 minute walk I came upon outdoor shops and restaurants on one side of the water, and a swing bridge that connects you to the other side. The swing bridge is opening in this picture to let a boat pass through:
After crossing to the other side (of the bridge!), I passed by more shops and restaurants, and this cool frame framing the famous table Mountain:
A few more minutes and I arrived at the mall. So many shops! I took a nice lunch break after trolling the mall for the things on my list. I found a restaurant near the water called the Greek Fisherman. I chose this place because they had hummus! My lunch was so very nice and relaxing. I had hummus and pita bread, and a great big salad with avocado, cucumbers, and garbonzo beans - yum!
Back to the mall after lunch to get the rest of what I needed. Here is a view of the ferris wheel from upstairs on my way back into the mall:
And on my walk back to the ship, another view of Table Mountain with the South african flag in the pic:
Back on board now with some extra toiletries, white shoes, a sweatshirt (it gets cold in the air conditioning and I forgot to bring one!), and a whole lot of excitement for what's to come!!
