Innsbruck: walking and hiking - streets and mountains

Here are some pictures from a beautiful day of hiking up into the mountains that surround Innsbruck. We grabbed our walking sticks and headed out!

A ticket to ride the funicular up the mountain to "base camp"

This is where we enter the funicular

View of the tracks

View from the top - "base camp" - and our starting point

All the mountain trails. We are starting at the red arrow and heading to the right (no time to head to the top before the weather changes).

There are directions all throughout the trail, as their are many trails

Helli leading the way

I called this the "Mushroom Man"

Walking through a foresty area. These next 2 pics I thought were cool

Me - arriving at our first rest stop

Our first rest stop. They have little houses or huts like this all throughout the trails with refreshments and beautiful views

Self timer pic - not the best angle. This is after I made the BIG mistake of sniffing what I thought was a mint plant, but was actually Brennnessel, a spikey leaf plant. Ouch! It felt like a bee was continually stinging my nose - for several minutes!!

The journey continues...

Arriving at rest stop #2

One of the outside seating areas (this is where we sat and enjoyed a drink and pretzels)

There was a lot of farmland surrounding this hut. This one area had a road to .....? I thought it was a neat pic :)

The parking lot (because you can drive to this hut as well as hike) across from where we sat

Continuing on.....

Looking back to the hut and surrounding farmland

Walking by a green field

...and cows grazing on the grass

Close up

Heading down the mountain over some fresh cut trees

Mountain berries! Now all I need are some twigs and my meal is complete - lol :p

Walking down back through the forest

Self timer portrait of us on the trail in the forest

German kitty!!!!

We made it back down to town and on our walk along the river home, we came upon this sign. Helli didn't know what it meant either

The smaller Sill River joining with the Inn

Our shadows...trailing us home
